PEAAK celebrates the most outstanding achievements in the high school experience. Focusing on excellence in athletics and activities, the nomination and voting process for award recipients is open to the public. Awards are given in multiple categories (below), during an exciting ceremony with life music and video performances. PEAAK Categories

1. Best Cheering Section: This award recipient will be given to the best cheering section, group, squad in the KHSD (Ex: A Cheer section, Supporter of the school)

2. Greatest Comeback: Presented to an individual or team, who came from behind to win a contest, season, or event. (Team, Individual, or event)

3. Best Example of Sportsmanship (Individual): This award shall be given to a student who has exhibited sportsmanship in its finest degree.

4. Best Example of Sportsmanship (Team or school): This award shall be given to a team or school who has exhibited sportsmanship in its finest degree.

5. Athletic Play of the Year: Given to the student or team, who had the greatest play of the year in an athletic contest or competition.

6. Best Male Student Athlete: Given to the top senior male athlete based on GPA, UC A-G requirements, CST scores, leadership, sports participated in, overall performance of team and teammates.

7. Best Female Student Athlete: Given to the top senior female athlete based on GPA, UC A-G requirements, CST scores, leadership, sports participated in, overall performance of team and teammates.

8. Best Community Service Project: Given to the student, or group, whose efforts have resulted in a greater benefit to the community of Kern High. (Relay for life)

9. Most Memorable Moment: Selected from the most noteworthy events in the KHSD. (Ex: Virtual Business National Competition, noteworthy local competition)

10. Greatest Community Supporter: This award shall be given to the community group/person who has contributed to the success of the mission of the KHSD. (Chevron, donors)

11. Best Female Athlete: This award shall be given to the best junior or senior female athlete as measured by performance, GPA, sports played, impact on team and school community etc.

12. Best Male Athlete: This award shall be given to the best junior or senior male athlete as measured by performance, GPA, sports played, impact on team and school community etc.

13. Most Inspirational Award: Given to the student, or group, who have persevered to inspire a group, school, or individual. (Example: A student that has inspired your school)

14. KHSD Superintendents Ambassador Award: This award shall be given to a student/group of students who have represented the KHSD in a notable manner. “A Tradition of Excellence”

15. Outstanding Theatre Technician (Student): Recognizes the achievement of an individual(s) in the areas of set, lights, sound, costume, make-up, or in run-of-show, design, and/or execution of stage work.

16. Outstanding Original Live Theatrical Production: Recognizes the achievement of individual(s) who created and /or produced an original production

17. Outstanding Theatrical Production: Recognizes the cast and production staff of a full length main stage production showing a combination of exemplary ensemble and technical work.

18. Best Public Event or Competition (Group): Presented to the school which conducted the best public event or competition of the year. Local band tournaments, if nominated, would be in this category.

19. Outstanding Achievement in Acting (Male): Recognizes the achievement of an individual’s cumulative contribution to the discipline of theatrical performance.

20. Outstanding Achievement in Acting (Female): Recognizes the achievement of an individual’s cumulative contribution to the discipline of theatrical performance.

21. Outstanding Achievement in Theater (Scholar Male): Recognizes an outstanding senior thespian male based on GPA, UC A-G requirements, CST scores, leadership, theatrical events participated in, and overall contribution to productions.

22. Outstanding Achievement in Theatre (Scholar Female): Recognizes an outstanding senior thespian female based on GPA, UC A-G requirements, CST scores, leadership, theatrical events participated in and overall contribution to productions.

23. Team GPA (Group): Awarded to the team with the highest overall Grade Point Average.

24. Best in Instrumental Music (Large Group): Recognized for their outstanding collective musicianship and performance quality. (ex: Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band)

25. Best Instrumental Music Soloist or Small Ensemble: Recognized for their outstanding collective musicianship and performance quality. (ex: Piano Soloist, Guitar, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Drum Line, Mariachi, Quintet etc)

26. Best in Vocal Music (Large Group): Recognized for their outstanding collective musicianship and performance quality. Ex: Concert Choir, Women’s Ensemble, Men’s Ensemble

27. Best Vocal Soloist or Small Ensemble: Recognized for their outstanding individual musicianship and performance quality. (ex: Soloist, Chamber Singers, Vocal Quartet etc)

28. Tradition of Excellence: The Tradition of Excellence Award, also the KHSD Motto, is given to the group, team or individual who has exhibited excellence over time.

29. Outstanding Leadership: Recognizes the student or group who has exhibited Leadership, which inspired students in the classroom, on the field, and in the community to achieve excellence during the year.

30. Best Art, Photo, or Film Project (Individual and/or Group)
